The Nikolai Kachanov Singers, artists-in-residence at the Nicholas Roerich Museum on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, celebrated its opening season with a series of premieres of works by contemporary composers. The group commissioned Path to Kailas by Yuri Boguinia, presented in its world premiere on September 21 at Zankel Hall and Stabat Mater by George Oakley dedicated to Nikolai Kachanov on October 1, at Weill Recital Hall, both at Carnegie Hall. In its first full concert program on October 30 at St. Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church, the ensemble will perform a program encompassing gems of early music as well as contemporary compositions.
